At the DEKRA Lausitzring, the latest series-production vehicles, trailers equipped with new technology, and charging infrastructure solutions stand side by side. It quickly becomes clear: Market adoption is no longer determined by vehicle technology, but by the business case – by charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles, grid connections, and reliable political framework conditions.

To achieve this, transportation companies need more than just an available vehicle. They need a comprehensive system consisting of vehicles, charging infrastructure, grid connectivity, and a clear policy framework. Only when this business case is in place will individual projects give way to a broad-scale fleet conversion to electric trucks – especially in small- and medium-sized freight forwarding and transportation companies.
Charging Infrastructure at the Lausitzring – what’s still missing in the wider area
A look at the charging points at the DEKRA Lausitzring shows what charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles can look like: high-performance charging stations, optimized grid connections, and intelligent control systems. On site, participants experience depot charging as well as mobile charging in practical solutions.
The panel discussions make it clear: The transition to zero-emission and sustainable commercial vehicles will only succeed if depot charging and public charging infrastructure for trucks work together. At the depot, fast building permits, predictable grid connections, and sufficient capacity are key. For long-distance travel, a fast-charging network for trucks is needed along highways with clearly defined intervals, reliable charging power, and transparent pricing.

Independent testing, real-world trials, and robust standards are therefore essential prerequisites for turning innovative solutions into a functioning market.

DEKRA and BGL as bridge-builders in the drive System transition
The Commercial Vehicles Future Day at the Lausitzring is more than just a trade conference. It brings together people who rarely sit at the same table in their day-to-day work: freight forwarders, vehicle manufacturers, energy providers, charging infrastructure operators, policymakers, and associations such as the German Federal Association for Road Freight Transport, Logistics, and Waste Management (Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Entsorgung – BGL).
DEKRA and BGL view the transition to zero-emission propulsion in road freight transport as a joint effort. The association brings the perspective of thousands of companies that want to gradually convert their fleets to zero-emission and sustainable commercial vehicles. DEKRA complements this perspective with experience from testing, inspections, and certifications across the entire value chain – from vehicle technology and battery systems to charging infrastructure.
At the end of the day, many participants take away one key insight: The ramp-up of zero-emission commercial vehicles is feasible when technology, charging infrastructure, grid connectivity, and political framework conditions align – and when people from different fields work together on solutions. The DEKRA Lausitzring thus remains not only a test center for vehicles and components but also a place where the future of commercial vehicles takes shape through dialogue.
